Nightwood Restaurant

2119 South Halsted Street

A few weeks ago when we were asked to choose a brunch spot for our friend's Dad who was visiting Chicago, we stumbled upon this great find! It is highly rated and is seen as one of the top brunch spots in the city. Located in Wicker Park( a lot of our favorite places are!) it is cozy yet chic. We were shocked when we arrived to see that it was completely packed! It was however, very worth the short wait. One of the signature items on the Nightwood menu are their donuts. We ordered two for our table to share and we are all still raving about the Maple Bacon donut. Nightwood does a great job of constantly changing up their menu to suit the season's flavors and fresh ingredients. We must say this farm-to-table fare is quite scrumptious!

To Eat:  The Donuts! Maple Bacon, Butterscotch, coffee custard, or chocolate glaze( all subject to change). Absolutely heavenly. If you want something a little heartier( not to mention healthier), their omelets can be filled with delicious ingredients like roasted apples and sunchokes.

The Wormhole

1462 North Milwaukee Avenue

Although this is not a brunch place so to speak, that doesn't mean you can't "hole" up  here on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon for some Chai, a pastry, and some quality time with your Mac. We think this may just be one of the hippest spots in Wicker Park, which is saying a lot. There definitely seems to be a large group of "regulars" who spend hours sipping their warm drinks, and trying to appear as if they are doing something far more important than editing photos for their blog or stalking people on Facebook. The coffee here is very good, but the atmosphere is even better.

To Drink: THE CHAI. Spice swears it is one of the best she's ever had. Take our advice, and come with laptop in tow to spend a lazy afternoon sipping and scoping out this eclectic and eccentric scene.
