Punk: Chaos to Couture
All eyes were on those famed red-carpeted stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art last night as everyone who 's anyone in Hollywood arrived at the annual Costume Institute's Ball. This event, often referred to as the Oscars of the fashion world, is the flashiest night of the year, one where celebs and fashionistas can pull out all the stops! With this year's punk theme, and Rooney Mara as host, celebs brought out their craziest couture. Here are some of the looks we loved and loathed.
Amber Heard in Emilio Pucci
This is one gorgeous look on one gorgeous girl. She played it safe in this gown, but looked the part of a red carpet queen. Perfection.
Rooney Mara in Givenchy
This year's host and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star brought it this year. The dark lipstick "punkifies" this white ensemble. The pointed shoulders add spice to the otherwise demure white of the dress.
Anne Hathaway in Valentino
This is my pick for best look of the night! Although there was some stiff competition for Anne, she rocked this gorgeous black dress. This dress is elegant, yet provocative, and her short blonde bob adds just the right touch. This dress is the grown up punk and fits sophisticated Anne to a tee. After her Oscar wardrobe malfunction, this was the perfect dress to put her back in good fashion graces.
Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy
This Les Mis star looks stunning! Amanda always looks so sweet, so it was great to see her in something a little more grown up. The hair and makeup are perfect complements to this gorgeous gown. This look screams serious actress and I love it.
Belle Heathcote-The Eyes Have It
Bella had one of the best makeup looks of the night, hands down. All I have to say is girls, don't try this one at home! I just have a feeling that there is no way on Earth any of us would be successful in recreating this eye makeup mastery. While the dress is only so-so for me, the eyes bring it all together.
Kate Bosworth in Balmain
Kate is stunning in this bright pink Balmain number. Her carefree hair and dewy complexion are polar opposites of her Met Gala look from last year, but she can work both looks! While most stars opted for longer, dramatic gowns, Kate chose a short stunner and I thought she did a great job channelling the punk rock look.
Cara Delevingne in Burberry
One word: perfection. The golden spikes on this frock speak for themselves and Delevingne let them do just that by pairing the dress with simple jewelry. With all the hardware of the dress, what else do you need? I'm not a fan of the messy hair and think an updo might have highlighted the dress better, but props to her on this one.
January Jones. Oh no Betty Draper! Whyyyyy? I just can't help but to envision January in something a little more feminine for such a glamorous night. This makeup look is dreadful and makes her look like a washed out alien. To make matters worse, the complex looking updo is pretty heinous and looks like something from a summer camp hair experiment gone wrong.
Miley Cyrus in Marc Jacobs
While Refinery 29 and others praised Miley for this bold take on the punk look, I have to say it was my least favorite look of the night, and quite possibly of any night. Miley seems to be shredding any ounce of remaining femininity she possessed, and is trading it in for.... a fishnet disaster? Miley actually reminds me of a fish( or some sort of sea creature) in this photo that has just been plucked from the sea.
Katy Perry in Dolce & Gabbana
Disaster. Complete and utter disaster. Enough said.
