On My Radar: March Happenings

by Lauren

Is it just me, or is this time of year in Chicago just fantastic? It seems that as the weather slowly begins to improve,  the city starts to wake up and come out of hibernation. Spring is just around the corner, and it's bringing some pretty fabulous events with it! There is so much fun going on this month that I realized a list was in order to make sure you're all tuned in to some of the can't-miss events/happenings of March! And if you think I left something out please leave me a comment!

First, here are some of the restaurants I'm loving this month!

Siena Tavern and The Library

This month marks the opening of the must-try Siena Tavern, and the joining of  forces David Rekhson (Public House, Bull& Bear), and Chef Fabio Viviani of Top Chef Season 5. While I have not yet been to this rustic Italian resto in River North, based on the number of reviews I've read, and Instagrams I've seen, it sure feels like I have! It has been compared and contrasted with Bill and Guilana's RPM and foodies everywhere seem to agree that the homey, classic Siena trumps the chic, modern RPM easily! Their pasta is said to be made "fromscratch" (according to Siena, that is now a word) and I can't wait to try it! I am especially looking forward to the gnocchi with truffle cream and the bombolinis (both seen below!) A review of this place is sure to follow this post very soon!

Thee bombolinis come with sauces in your very own squirt bottles! (Raspberry, Whiskey Caramel, and Chocolate Hazelnut. Yumm)

The Library is the new expansion that has just opened below the wonderful GiltBar. This spot includes everything we love about GiltBar, with a whole new vibe. Brendan Sodikoff who has brought us such treasures as Bavette's, has scoured the globe in search of beautiful, vintage leather bound books to adorn this intimate space. The area is all plush red velvet booths and dim candlelight, and we also think it could be the perfect place to cozy up during these last few weeks of winter.

Chicago Chef Week March 17-22

Fabulous Prixe Fixe Menus from some of the best talent in the Chicago restaurant scene? Yes please! Here are some of the places that will be participating, but for a full list check this out.

Balena, BellyQ, Little Market Brasserie, Urban Union, Sepia, Perennial Virant, and Mercadito.

Cheeky Chicago Real People of Style Fashion Show

This is the 4th Annual Real People show and is taking place at 900 North Michigan Shops on March 21st! This fun-filled night will feature 10 of Chicago's most stylish who will rock the runway in designs by Diesel, DEKA, Bloomingdale's and many more. Some of the models will include Graham Kostic of Glossed and Found, as well as Kelly Ryan O'Brien of the Chicago Blogger Network. Small bites will be provided by Siena Tavern.

Tickets are just $25 and can be purchased here.

Picasso and Chicago

Okay this event started at the Art Institute in February, but I just had to mention it since Spice and I love art so much. We are so lucky to have the Art Institute in our backyards, and now they are bringing us yet another exquisite exhibit. The Museum has been collecting the work of Pablo Picasso since the 1920's and now this exciting showcasing of his work is now available to the public. It not only includes the resident works owned by the museum, but also includes pieces from collections housed all throughout the city. This is truly a must-see

We are sure that there are countless events going on in the city, but these are just a few I have chosen to spotlight. Leave me a comment, or send a message if you know of any cool things happening this month!
